Group Service Opportunities

Group General Service Representative (GSR)

  • 2 Year Commitment

  • Represents their group at monthly District Meetings at Triannual Area Assemblies and the Mini-Conference

​

Group Alt-General Service Representative (Alt GSR)

  • 2 Year Commitment

  • Serves when the Group General Service Representative (GSR) is unable to

​

Bridging the Gap Liaison

  • Sits on the District Bridging The Gap Committee

  • Sits on the Area Bridging The Gap Committee at Area Assemblies

​

Cooperating with the Professional Community Liaison

  • Sits on the District Cooperating with the Professional Community Committee

  • Sits on the Area Cooperating with the Professional Community Committee at Area Assemblies

​

Grapevine Representative

  • Sits on the District Grapevine Committee

  • Sits on the Area Grapevine Committee at Area Assemblies

​

Public Information Liaison

  • Sits on the District Public Information Committee

  • Sits on the Area 13 Public Information Committee At Area Assemblies

Local District Service Opportunities

All District service terms are for 2 years

​

District Committee Member (DCM)

  • 2 year term

  • Serves as the vital link of communication between the Area and the Groups

  • Responsible for the overall health and maintenance of the local General Service culture in their respective A.A. district

  • Encourages services to the groups such as local A.A. workshops, or A.A. events hosted by the District

  • Encourages local service initiatives which help carry the message at the District level such as accessibilities, bridging the gap, corrections, cooperation with the professional community, grapevine, public information, treatment, and more.

Alternate District Committee Member (Alt-DCM)

  • 2 year term

​

District Secretary

  • 2 year term

  • Takes minutes of the monthly District meeting

  • Shares and distributes copies of the monthly District meeting minutes

  • Shares meeting minutes with Area Archives Meeting

  • Encouraged to sit on Area Archives Committee (meets on Assembly Days / Weekends three times per year)

​

District Treasurer

  • 2 year term

  • Collects and manages all district funds and contributions

  • Provides accurate records of all district finances

  • Manages District special collection boxes (e.g. Anniversary month or 7th Tradition Month)

​

District Bridging the Gap Committee Chair

  • 2 year term

  • Assists Area Bridging the Committee with identifying and securing opportunities to make regular Bridging the Gap presentations at local treatment or correctional facilities

  • Works with local GSRs to distribute the Area Bridging the Gap Temporary Contact Sign Up Form to local groups and shares new volunteer information with the Area 13 Bridging the Gap Committee Database

  • Encouraged to discuss local and national A.A. policy matters pertaining to the Treatment and Corrections with the Area Bridging the Committee on Assembly Day or Weekend.

  • Coordinates, plans, and organizes local opportunities to educate professionals who may work with alcoholics

  • Encouraged to sit on Area 13 Grapevine Committee (meets on Assembly Days / Weekends three times per year) to discuss local and national A.A. Grapevine and A.A. Literature policy matters

The Difference Between Group, District, and Area Level Service.

​

Area Standing Committees 

Area Standing are in a leadership position

Share information from G.S.O. relevant to their committee with corresponding District service committees and group representatives

Discuss Area policy and General Service Conference Policy

Delegate service initiatives to local A.A. Districts

Provides Training and support to their corresponding District service committees

​

​

The Area 13 Service Committees generally deal with working its member DCMs, District Service Committee Chairs, and group liaisons, and A.A. volunteers to discuss local A.A. policy or national US/Canada A.A. policy matters as well as discuss share information relevant to their Committee with local A.A. Districts, and their Groups.

​

Area Standing Committees are comprised of the following Committee types:

Service Committees - These committees perform work that help facilitate 12th step work

 

Operational Committees - Operational Committees are important to the functioning of the Area and may also discuss policy related matters. These include the:

Hospitality Committee

Policy & Procedure Committee

Website Committee

​

Area Service Committees train local Districts to coordinate and organize local service activities relevant to their committee.

​

Group service committee liaisons or Reps work with their group General Service Representative to inform groups of local District or Area service opportunities and builds enthusiasm for these important service projects which help improve our ability to carry the message to the still suffering alcoholic in our local community or neighborhood.
